What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a cooperative endeavour, where the client and therapist work together to address issues which are troubling to the client, such as difficulty stopping smoking or anxiety about public speaking. When the client is hypnotised, they are in a state of deep relaxation where the subconscious mind is receptive to positive suggestions. This can result in lasting beneficial change.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

The great majority of people can be hypnotised. Hypnosis is a natural state similar to drifting off to sleep or being absorbed in an interesting book and losing track of time.

What happens when I “go under”?

“Going under” is what happens when someone is anaesthetised . When someone is hypnotised they remain conscious and in control of their faculties.

How will I feel when I am hypnotised?

Most people find the experience very enjoyable and relaxing. Some people notice altered sensations such as feelings of heaviness in their limbs.

Under hypnosis, can I be persuaded to do things that are against my will?

Someone who has been hypnotised cannot be persuaded to do anything which is against their will or violates their own moral code. Hypnotherapy is completely different from stage hypnosis which is designed for entertainment.
