Anxiety is a normal response to a hazardous situation and can be life saving eg when you suddenly have to brake when driving. Changes in breathing, rapid heartbeat and sweating palms usually settle after the immediate threat has passed.
However, anxiety can be triggered by difficulties at home or at work where a rapid physical response may not be appropriate. Becoming anxious about “what might happen” can become a habit and chronic anxiety can cause uncomfortable physical symptoms and greatly limit enjoyment of life.
